Tournament Report: Captain Greg Thornley

Well what can I say it should have been one of the most organised demons ever but for all the planning in the world it all only came together on the Drive up to Aberystwyth thanks in a large part to sheer luck and my old flatmate James Lyle.

Preparation for the Demons started quite early and so a reasonably unchanged team from 2003 was entered boasting a host of extra players such as Reynolds, Cameron and a load of other players who all said they were well up for the Tournament.....Submitting the application was

When your kits fall apart only beer can lift the Spirits

easy as a possible 20 players were to attend all we did was apply, sort out accommodation

Celebrating a Default win

and arrange for kits to be made that wouldnt break the bank ( as most of us had only graduated the year before!)

The kits were arranged by me originally to look like Japan with our original design badge on it but as I was to find out beggars cant be choosers and we ended up with a huge headed demon baby...NICE

we did get some free t-shirts though so every cloud!

We went up also with a huge amount of players dropping out and on the day we travelled, we didnt have any idea of where we were all going to sleep?

When all else fails do the can can!

Our prayers were answered by two of our old flatmates, Eds mate Pete who had let half the team sleep on the floor and my mate James who at the last minute asked to play for us and brought some ringers and the use of his digs for the privilege of playing for us...what a guy.

So we got down to drinking on friday and with aching heads made our way down to the fields for our first game. Our scrum was improving but our pace never really took us anywhere as we lost every match we played in comical fashion as the low quality kits fell apart in the tackle and many such as blanko got more and more annoyed that he was wearing his ripped off collar as a armband. But there was one bonus to be had from my captaincy as we trundled onto the pitch fr our next we could see no opposition about??? We all walked off obviously thinking that we had got the time wrong but no...the other team hadnt turned up giving Shiny Demons there first DEFAULT win!!!

After being knocked out of the Spoon we returned dismally to a piss up in Cardiff at Demons HQ ( Me, Eds, Bap and Garys house) for a much merryment and all was forgotten, I'll never forget my terrible year as Captain and as sods law would have it the older I get the better captain I think I would be.
